Peter Weibel, Prof. Dr., has been Chairman and CEO of the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe since 1999. He is a poly-artist, theorist of art and media and exhibition curator. He studied literature, medicine, logic, philosophy and film in Paris and Vienna, and wrote his doctoral thesis on mathematical logic (modal logic). Since the 1980s, among other appointments he was Professor of Photography at the Gesamthochschule Kassel, Associate Professor of Video and Digital Arts at the Center for Media Study at the State University of New York at Buffalo, Professor of Visual Media Art at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, and Director of the Institut für Neue Medien at the Staedelschule in Frankfurt/Main. He has held positions as Artistic Director of Ars Electronica in Linz, as Chief Curator of the Neue Galerie at the Landesmuseum Joanneum in Graz and as Austrian Commissioner of the Biennale di Venezia.
