Jochen Volz is curator and general director of Inhotim Centro de Arte Contemporânea (Minas Gerais, Brazil). In 2006, he was guest curator of the 27th São Paulo Biennial: How to Live Together, curated by Lisette Lagnado (chief curator) and Adriano Pedrosa, Cristina Freire, Jose Roca, Rosa Martinez (co-curators), organizing a special project in homage to Marcel Broodthaers. Between 2001 and 2004, he was curator of Portikus Frankfurt/ Main (Germany), where he organized individual exhibitions with Cildo Meireles, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Gilbert & George, Janet Cardiff, Jason Rhoades, Philippe Parreno, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Rivane Neuenschwander and Simon Starling, amongst others. He edited a series of publications, such as Gasthof 2002 Städelschule Frankfurt/M. (Frankfurt/ Main, Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste – Städelschule: 2003) Why not play the dice? (Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste – Städelschule, Frankfurt/ Main, 2003), Turbulenz-Portikus Projekte 2001-2004 (Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste – Städelschule, Frankfurt/ Main, 2004), amongst others. As a critic he writes for magazines and catalogues.
