Abstract

Art in Search of Curational Practice and Criticism

The recent financial crisis has not only put a termination mark on an era of euphoria, it has also cleared the way for the emergence of new art platforms that increasingly respond to local memory and a cosmopolitan audience close to home. In China, the accelerated history of art in the past twenty years saw radical changes that reflect consequences of globalization under China’s new policies. Institutional developments have not caught up with the altered ecology of the art world, and the discrepancy suggests possibilities for creative intervention through curatorial practice and renovation of art platform. This points to the possibility of an ecology of art that has innovative possibilities in terms of validation, art practice and reception.
