Abstract

Art “With an Accent”, Why Not

Within the development of art in Indonesia, the world of traditions has, since the beginning of the nineteenth century, interpreted what Dutton called “art in the Western sense.“

The “art in the Western sense” can be viewed as analogous to the development of English. Considering this analogy, the understanding of art in the two distinct streams of development in Asia can be viewed as “art with an accent”. This “art with an accent” reflects the diversity in the context of the world of art.
