Abstract
The Year 1989. The Ambiguities of the Dawn of Globalziation
It is the aim of the paper to revisit the 1989 exhibition Magiciens de la terre that today would figure as “Artists on the Globe”, with two new questions which are meant to put it in a larger context. The one considers the many other projects of the curator, Jean-Hubert Martin, and thus intends to reconstruct his life-long concept of curating art. The other question concerns a general trend of changing the direction of the art world which manifests itself in other exhibitions of the same year.
